Kantara Movie Review by Nimish Halkar
Kantara (Kāntāra, transl. ”Forest”) is a 2022 Indian Kannada-language drama film written and directed by Rishab Shetty, and produced by Vijay Kiragandur under the banner of Hombale Films. The film stars Shetty as a Kambala champion, often at loggerheads with an upright forest officer, Murali (played by Kishore). Achyuth Kumar and Sapthami Gowda feature in supporting roles.
Set and filmed in Keradi in coastal Karnataka, principal photography began in August 2021. The camera was handled by Arvind S. Kashyap, with B. Ajaneesh Loknath scoring music for the film. Action Sequences were choreographed by the two time National Award winning Action Director Vikram Mor.
Kantara opened to widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences alike upon its theatrical release on 30 September 2022. The performances (especially that of Shetty’s and Kishore’s), direction, screenplay, cinematography, music, showcase of the Buta Kola, action sequences, editing, background score and production design were highly praised.
