Across the wildly diverse landscape of Indian cinema with countless genres and different languages — women filmmakers are Redefining Norms in Indian Cinema. Whether it is at the regional cinema or mainstream Bollywood. The Indian film industry has seen the emergence of some critically and commercially appreciated female directors in the last some years. The scenario is changing as the invincible spirit of female members of the film world is taking filmmaking to a whole new level.
Today, there are lots of women filmmakers who are brilliant with the technique of filmmaking but there was a time when they were not imagined as something more than an actress, but then ‘there are always exceptions. F-Rated: Being a Woman Filmmaker in India, A book published in 2019 by Nandita Dutta is about why there are so few women filmmakers in India and why isn’t anybody talking about it. Nandita Dutta, who works at the Centre for Studies of Gender and Sexuality at Ashoka University, in her first book, F-rated, explores the lives of 11 women filmmakers of India.
Those days are gone when women were seen only in front of the camera. In the last decade, we have seen the huge participation of women in different aspects of filmmaking. They have excelled in every job related to filmmaking. And we are indeed proud of it.
